A prescribed burn is scheduled for Pirate's Wharf Park in Quantico within the next couple days. The exact day and time is weather-dependent.
The burn will be performed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Services. Visitors are advised to avoid the park if they see fire and/or smoke.
A prescribed burn is a controlled application of fire to land by trained professionals used to manage vegetation, reduce wildfire risk and restore healthy ecosystems.
This will prepare the park for planting 23+ acres of trees and meadows as part of the approved master plan.
