Pirate's Wharf
Update (10/2/23): We are excited to welcome the public to Pirate's Wharf Park beginning Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 9 a.m.
Visitors are invited to explore the playground, pavilion and a portion of the trails. (The pavilion is not available for rentals at this time.)
The areas grayed out on the map are closed for construction. For your safety, avoid these areas and follow directions on posted signs throughout the park.
We're working to open additional portions of the park. Here's an estimated timeline for remaining construction:
- Early 2024: Remaining trails open; interpretive exhibits installed
- 2025: Boat ramp, soft launch, fishing pier and viewing areas open
Background
At the end of 2018, the Wicomico County Council voted to accept a federal grant award of $820,000 from the National Parks Service through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) for development of the property known as "Pirate’s Wharf." The grant is administered through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
A work group established by the County Executive in 2017 recommended public water access, multi-use/low-impact recreational activities and maintenance of the property's natural resources as top priorities to consider in future development.
A draft of the Pirate's Wharf master plan and environmental assessment was posted for public comment on Monday, Oct. 7, 2019. The public comment period ended on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019.
