Nothing beats a baseball game in the summer time – the kids cheering in the dugout, the smack of the ball as it’s caught in a leather glove, the infield dirt crunching under cleated feet. For the town of Delmar, home to Gordy Park, these summer ball games are a regular occurrence. Gordy Park has four ball fields of varying sizes along with lights, electronic scoreboards, bleachers, and concession stands. These amenities make it well equipped to host the range of Delmar’s Little League teams which include t-ball, coach pitch, baseball, and softball.
In addition to the ball fields, Gordy Park has a large playground area with sheltered picnic tables. Next to the playground are two fenced basketball courts and a skate park with ramps, both added as part of a renovation project in 2009. A cooperative effort among many organizations, Gordy Park is provided by the following: J. William Gordy, Delmar Kiwanis Club, Delmar VFW, Delmar Lion’s Club, Town of Delmar, Wicomico County, Maryland Program Open Space, and Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
This park was funded in part by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Program Open Space Grants.
