Neighbor to Neighbor

Want to give back to your community? Volunteer opportunities with Wicomico County Recreation & Parks are almost unlimited. Coach a youth team, help out at a one-day special event or assist on an ongoing basis. Students who need service-learning hours can earn hours through this program.

The Neighbor to Neighbor Program is currently seeking volunteers for the following positions:

Title Duties

Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex Helper
Posted: Dec-27-2016
Assist during local and tournament play at the Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex by operating the scoreboards, racking fields between games, helping with shirt sales, and other duties.
Summer Camp Aide
Posted: Dec-27-2016
Assist children 5-13 years of age with a variety of hands-on activities including crafts, sports, field trips and more. Camps are held at multiple sites around the county including Delmar, North Salisbury, Westside and Pemberton. Jr. Counselor opportunities are available for youth ages 15-17. Seasonal position.
Tutor

Assist children 5-13 years of age in after-school program with homework and activities. Volunteers must be mature, knowledgeable of subject areas and possess the ability to patiently communicate clear instructions.
Festival Operative

Assist recreation staff with the operation of large-scale festivals including Pork in the Park and the Good Beer Festival. Volunteer opportunities are available for groups and individuals. Compensation and/or merchandise may be provided.
One-Day Special Event Operative

Assist recreation staff with the operation of a variety of one-day special events in numerous capacities including set-up/break-down, registration, hospitability and more.
Events include Youth Chess Tournament, Youth Fishing Derby, Heritage Day and Bike Tour, Pumpkin Tour and Turkey Trek 5K. Event details can be found on our website.
Park Improvement Helper

Assist park staff with the constant upkeep and improvement of numerous public parks within our community. Opportunities in trash pick-up, painting and landscaping may be available.
Environmental Adventure Aide

Assist recreation staff in conducting experiential learning programs for children and adults. These courses include trail hikes, animal shows, river paddles, Challenge Course/team building, archery and more. Paddling programs: Safety is stressed in all water programs. All volunteers must feel comfortable on the water and attend a short water safety lesson with certified staff.
Youth Skill Development Aide

Programs: Jr. Girls Softball, Soccer, Jr. Golf, Volleyball, Tennis
Serve as an assistant to recreation staff, teaching a variety of basic sport skills to youth ages 3-8. Volunteers must have a thorough knowledge of the sport they would like to instruct, the ability to demonstrate the skills being taught and the ability to patiently communicate clear instructions.
Youth Athletic Coach

Programs: Jr. Girls Softball (Spring) and Youth Soccer (Fall)
Serve as a coach under the direction of recreation staff, instructing youth ages 3-17 in various sport disciplines. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and willing to organize practices, teach basic skills, encourage team play and good sportsmanship, travel with the team to games, project a positive attitude and occasionally meet with league representatives.

    • After registering for a free Active account, you'll answer a few questions regarding volunteer opportunities. Your information will be added to our database.
    • Based on your areas of volunteer interests, the appropriate staff member will contact you when opportunities are available.
  2. Paper Application
    • Print and complete the Volunteer Interest Application.

    • Based on your areas of volunteer interests, the appropriate staff member will contact you when opportunities are available.

All volunteers ages 18 and older desiring to volunteer in children’s programs sponsored by Wicomico County Recreation & Parks will be required to undergo a background investigation.

Follow these easy steps to volunteer with children’s programs:

  1. Submit your application to volunteer using one of the above methods.
  2. Complete the Background Check Authorization Form.
  3. Submit the completed form via one of the following methods:
